Director Clinical and Diagnostics Services:

Dr. Francis Egwu Alu, is presently the Director of Clinical and Diagnostic Services FCTA and also a Chief Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

Dr. Alu had his primary education in Afikpo Ebonyi State and obtained the first school leaving certificate at distinction level. He graduated from high school as the best all-round student with grade one distinction in 1980 and was awarded the Federal Government Merit Award Scholarship for high academic performance to study Medicine & Surgery at the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1987 with honours.

Dr. Alu did his National Youth Service Corps with the Federal Capital Development Authority in 1988, serving meritoriously with Merit Award Certificate for Excellence and Dedication to duty which earned him an automatic employment with the FCDA in 1989 at a time when there was embargo on employment. 

Dr. Alu, worked at various times in most FCT hospitals rising to the post of Principal Medical Officer before proceeding to the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan for his Specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He completed the programme in record time and was awarded the fellowship of both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG) and West African College of Surgeons (FWACS). He is also a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).

In August 2006, He was appointed Chief Consultant and Chairman/Medical Director of Maitama District Hospital Abuja where he served out his two terms meritoriously and received commendation from FCT administration.

Dr. Alu belongs to many professional associations including Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Society of Gynaecology & Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON). Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). He was at various times Secretary NMA FCT Abuja branch, National Assistant Secretary General NMA, Vice Chairman MDCAN FCT chapter and he is currently Chairman FCT Postgraduate Residency Training Committee. He has attended several local and international courses/conferences and has acted as resource person in many workshops/seminars. He is also a master trainer for IPAS Nigeria and an Examiner in the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the West African College of Surgeons.

His areas of interest include Infertility and Reproductive endocrinology and Maternal and Fetal medicine. A clinician, Teacher and Researcher, Dr. Alu loves reading, writing, listening to good music and watching football (An Arsenal FC Fan).
