Gwarinpa General Hospital was established in 1989 as a club house and commenced operation in 1990 as General Hospital. The hospital was developed to provide accessible secondary healthcare to the growing populations of Gwarinpa, Life Camp and surrounding communities, reducing pressure on larger tertiary hospitals in Abuja. Over time, it expanded its services to include general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, emergency care, laboratory services, radiology, pharmacy and other clinical services.

The hospital has also benefited from government improvements and interventions by development and charitable organisations. For example, a diabetes treatment centre was established at the hospital with support from the Lions Club, while FIDA Abuja adopted its labour ward as part of an initiative to improve maternal healthcare.

Today, Gwarinpa General Hospital operates as a 24-hour government secondary healthcare facility and serves as an important referral hospital for primary healthcare centres and communities within the Gwarinpa/Life Camp axis and other parts of the FCT. Current facility information indicates that it has inpatient capacity as well as laboratory, imaging, pharmacy and ambulance services.
